There are a handful of bars near Manchester Academy on the outskirts of town, part of the University Of Manchester campus, a 15 minute walk down Oxford Road from the city centre.
Manchester Academy 2 and 3 and the Club Academy are located next door and boast their own Student Union bar which is open to concert goers.
As you'd expect, most of the bars near Manchester Academy are largely student hang outs but on concert nights they get taken over by hundreds of music lovers, especially for pre-show drinking.
As well as Manchester Academy, these are also the bars nearest to the RNCM, Contact Theatre and Manchester Aquatic Centre, which are all close by.
The wonderful new bar inside the Royal Northern College of Music is also open to non-students and non-concert goers alike. As you would expect, the bar often plays host to live musicians and real ale is provided by Manchester's Hyde's Brewery, including a regularly changing guest ale. They are also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner
The younger bigger sister of Odd Bar is a vibrant funky bar, next to the Dancehouse Theatre, opposite the BBC studios and Palace Theatre on Oxford Road. Popular with students and business folk alike, it's great for pre-show drinking and plays host to great live music and regular DJs.
The Palace Hotel's cocktail bar boasting the largest Martini menu in Manchester. Next door to the Palace Theatre and Oxford Road Station, a short walk to the RNCM and Academy, it boasts grand ceilings and elegant furniture, making it one of the most impressive drinking venues in the city
